Information Builders has unveiled a database adapter for IBM's Web Query reporting tool for DB2.

The adapter, which is based on Information Builders' WebFOCUS platform, enables IBM customers to use the vendor's reporting tool on relational databases other than DB2 running on IBM's i operating system. The initial version of the adapter enables access to MicrosoftSQL Server, with other databases to be added later.

IBM claims that it has doubled the customer base of its Web Query for i tool in the last six months to more than 20,000 licenses.

"The new database adapter feature fulfills a high-priority requirement from our customers," Doug Mack, Power Systems marketing manager at IBM, said in a statement. "While the majority of their data most likely resides in DB2 for i, the desire to have a single tool that also accesses non-DB2 databases without having to replicate data enhances productivity and keeps costs at a minimum."

The database adapter is scheduled to be available in beta by the end of March. The final version is expected to ship in the second quarter. Pricing was not disclosed.
